This is one of the abandoned takes of the project. While it didn’t make it to the final work, it was crucial in shaping the next step, teaching me what works and what doesn’t.
Accepting imperfection in art has helped me grow as a person, turning every “not-best” choice into a learning experience. Like these discarded ideas, nothing truly goes to waste—it’s always ready to be revisited. I always understood the concept, but art taught me to embrace it in a practical sense.
In my practice, the audience's response is essential to its completion. Their unique interpretations often reveal meanings, symbols, and historical references from inconceivable perspectives that broadens my approaches in future creations.
My teddy bear and girl series began as a class assignment in 2023. Without a specific prompt, I instinctively painted a random girl with a brown background, oblivious of its potential. During a critique, my classmates highlighted themes like trauma, nostalgia, and childhood, which became the foundation for my body of work.
As my work grows, the feedbacks from my viewers continue to expand its dimensions. Ultimately, this ongoing dialogue with the audience drives my artistic journey forward.
My childhood was joyful, yet often lonely, filled with both fear and excitement for the future. However, my photo album doesn’t capture the underlying melancholy—moments that were neither photographed nor discussed. The memory of a scared child, lost in her own body and home, lingers, vague yet persistent.
As an adult, the mix of nostalgia and unresolved trauma from my early years still resurfaces. Both positive and negative legacy from it dwell in the presence, and its trace constantly comes and goes. The teddy bear at the corner of the bed turns noticeable one day and goes invisible soon.
My sketchbook doesn’t always fit in my backpack. Fragmented memories and constant stimuli from my connection to the complexities of childhood shape my ideas, often flowing directly from my mind to the canvas as a sketch, along with daily scribbles in my sketchbook.
I’ve drawn significant inspiration from countless artists from diverse generations and backgrounds in my work. In today’s digital age, the abundance of online resources has greatly expanded my collection, offering limitless inspiration and connections with artists worldwide. The exchange of ideas and creativity continuously influences my approach, pushing me to grow and evolve as an artist. I am honored to be part of a community where art inspires more art, sparking deeper conversations along the way.
